LIFE MEMBERS

John Alford.

John is one of the inaugural committee members of the West Oz 1/4 Scale Speedway Association when it was formed in 2005 in Waroona WA. During this time he has been part of the committee in various roles including treasurer, secretary, vice chairperson and has been in the chairsperson's role since 2016. One of John's favourite roles at the club is track curator and he spends many hours every week maintaining the track and the venue.

John has been driving RC speedway racecars for over 15 years and is a National title winner and a four-time State champion. Add countless heat & feature race victories during his very successful career and Johno qualifies as one of the sport's best competitors.

For the 'Decade at Hendo' celebrations in 2016, the Sponsors Lounge was named after John to recognise his dedication and commitment to the Association.

John was awarded Life Membership of the WOQSSA in 2010.

Les Blechynden

One of the men synonymous with the introduction of RC speedway racing to WA, Les Blechynden's passion for the sport is infectious. Back in the 1990's Les set out to create a radio-controlled, 1/4 scale Sprintcar and with the help of some enthusiasts on the east coast he completed his project. A new form in dirt track racing was born. Les was a strong force behind the creation of the West Oz Association in Waroona and then lead the search for suitable land in the metro area to relocate to the current headquarters of the WOQSSA in Henderson. Over the next decade Les and the committee proceeded to built the venue to what it is today, the best RC speedway venue in the country and arguably across the globe.

Les is not bad behind the controller either, adding a National Sedan title and triple State titles to his trophy cabinet.

For the 'Decade at Hendo' celebrations in 2016, the new clubroom was named after Les for his dedication and commitment to the Association.

Les was awarded Life Membership in 2010.

Jim Waddell

'JW' has been racing RC speedway for some 15 years. His love for competition has seen his race not only across the country but successfully in the USA and New Zealand where he spread-the-word about the sport of RC speedway. His connection with the TAMS Group saw him initiate a long-standing sponsorship which saw TAMS as the naming-right sponsor at the Henderson venue for several seasons. Jim's record of successes on the track is remarkable. His list of race wins, title successes and awards includes the 2014 National Sprintcar title.

For the 'Decade at Hendo' celebrations in 2016, the annual Track Champion Award was named after Jim for his dedication and commitment to the Association.

He was awarded Life Membership to the WOQSSA in 2019.

CANTEEN CORNER - MAXINE'S CAFE

The most important spot on a race night at Hendo isn't the Pits...or the track, its Maxine's Cafe.

The new location in the Winner's Circle is awesome and we all just love the service with a smile from the lovely ladies in the canteen.

Pictured from back in 2021 are Jacqui, Lyn, Cherrie, Izzy, Maxine and Georgia.

Thank you ladies, we love ya work!
